Platt Students Featured at the San Diego County Fair!
Between the crowds, rides and the strong smell of food at the San Diego County Fair, visitors have many options for entertainment. One in particular is a giant art exhibit in the middle of all the excitement providing a nice break from the hot San Diego sunshine. The Student Showcase exhibit features art from elementary school to college students throughout the San Diego County area. This exhibit has been a great way for students to showcase their work with others for years!
Platt students have had their digital media designs as well as their traditional artwork submitted to the fair’s Student Showcase Exhibit by the dean Marketa Hancova since 2006. Every year since then students have had the wonderful opportunity to not only have their work viewed by thousands of people but also win awards for their hard work. Platt students who have submitted their work are well known for taking home many awards. On average around 20 awards are given to Platt students! From First Place Ribbons to The Best of the Best Awards where they have their work showcased in a special ceremony. Over the years, Platt students have contributed hundreds of designs to the student showcase to represent the school!
Some of the students and alumni who had their designs featured this year include: Chelsey Moter, Sean Carnley, Dominic Bendinetti, Metamery Simon, Natasha Englehardt, Janie Johnson, and Kellina Nesbeth. Many of these students won first and second place ribbons! Another student from Platt College, Bryn Tarr, was awarded with the Best of the Best Award this year for her beautifully welded Viking Helmet. Clearly a favorite with the judges!
Since Platt College is a school that focuses on digital media design, the diversity of work is always inspiring. From designs and illustrations created with Photoshop and Illustrator, to traditional paintings and photography, there is something for everyone to enjoy when viewing the student gallery.
Overall the Student Showcase at the San Diego County Fair is an exhibit worth taking the time to view and appreciate the hard work of the many talented Platt students represented. If you are a student who hasn’t submitted work, perhaps next year would be a great opportunity to show all of San Diego your talent and digital media design skills acquired while at Platt College. If you are planning on attending the fair this year before it ends on the Fourth of July, don’t forget to look at the wonderful work created by Platt students. The Student Showcase isn’t hard to find located in the middle of the fair; you can’t miss it!
